Electrolytic Aluminum Anode Carbon Block and Its Preparation Method

Electrolytic Aluminum Anode Carbon Block and Its Preparation Method

The anode carbon block is made of petroleum coke and asphalt coke as aggregate and coal asphalt as the binder. It is manufactured through processes such as calcination of petroleum coke, secondary crushing, screening, crushing, asphalt melting, batching, kneading, molding and roasting at high temperatures of 1100 degrees. It can be used as anode materials for a prebaked aluminum electrolytic cell and it plays a dual role in conduction and reduction. This kind of carbon block has a stable geometric shape after roasting, so it is also called prebaked anode carbon block or carbon anode for aluminum electrolysis, and it can also be called the prebaked cell for short. This is a modern large aluminum electrolytic cell.

1. Electrolytic aluminum anode carbon block and its preparation method

The electrolytic aluminum anode carbon block is made of anthracite, petroleum coke and binder. Based on the different ash content of anthracite, different proportions of anthracite coal are mixed with corresponding petroleum coke according to its preparation method. Firstly, the anthracite coal is washed and selected to remove the gangue and some minerals in the coal so that the ash content of the anthracite coal can be reduced and the fixed carbon content is increased. Gas calculation or electric calcination can discharge volatile matter from anthracite, promote the decomposition of partial ash and reduce its power resistivity. Also, it can increase density and mechanical strength and improve the oxidation resistance of raw materials. Secondly, the calcined or uncalcined anthracite is crushed and ground into powder and further deashed, and then compacted by vibration compaction or shear compaction to form a green carbon block. Next, the product can be done after roasting.
