The Manufacturing Process of the Anode Carbon Block

1. The process principle of anode carbon block

The process principle of aluminum electrolytic pre-baked anode production is that the petroleum coke aggregate and the asphalt binder are mixed and molded to form a green body with a certain shape. After heat treatment, the binder is carbonized to obtain an anode product with high mechanical strength, oxidation resistance and lower resistivity. Raw materials of production include two main parts of main components of the anode (also called aggregate) and the binder. Binder refers to asphalt, which is the residue after high-temperature fractionation of coal tar produced when coke is produced from bituminous coal in the iron and steel industry. It is a mixture of various hydrocarbons, which are mainly divided into two types of medium temperature asphalt and high-temperature asphalt.

2. The manufacturing process of anode carbon block

In general, the production of anodes includes processes such as crushing, screening and formulating, kneading, molding and roasting. Among them, kneading makes the various raw materials uniformly mixed, and different particles are stacked reasonably to form a high degree of compactness of paste. Due to the asphalt with adhesive properties, the previous loose accumulation of particles becomes a cohesive interconnection and plastic with plasticity. After sufficient time of kneading, the binder also penetrates into the pores of the raw material particles to improve the cohesiveness and compactness. Roasting refers to the heat treatment of the pressed carbon block under the condition of isolation of the air to convert the binder into coke. The mechanical strength of the roasted carbon anode is stable, and it can significantly improve its thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and high-temperature resistance.
